SUSTAINABLE DESIGN: DSLSM

The Circle Pavilion, constructed using environmentally friendly materials to safeguard the safety of our planet, tells a vision of sustainability for the Earth's environment. It was planned with a focus on not just creating beautiful things but ensuring that the materials used are fully reusable and recyclable, thus minimizing their impact on the Earth's environment while promoting their circulation for new purposes.
The eco-friendly material Tyvek, covering the structure of the pavilion, will be disassembled after the exhibition and reborn as plastic panels. The puzzle benches crafted from discarded and neglected structural timber, along with the steel framework supporting the pavilion, will all be recycled and repurposed where needed. Furthermore, to reduce the environmental impact and carbon emissions at the construction site, the majority of components are prefabricated in a factory and then installed on-site.
This Pavilion was brought to life through collaboration with experts and engineers from various fields who shared a clear goal of sustainability. Under the leadership and direction of Studio Heech, an architectural design studio, the globally renowned structural consultant, Front, worked together to create the lightest possible structural elements. DSLSM, known for showcasing a variety of eco-friendly works using Tyvek materials, collaborated to implement the circulation and meaningful utilization of materials.
지구의 안전을 지키는 친환경 재료로 만들어진 Circle Pavilion은 지구 환경의 지속가능성(Sustainability)에 대한 비전을 이야기합니다. 아름다운 것을 만드는 것으로 끝나는 것이 아닌, 사용된 재료들이 온전히 재사용, 재활용 되는 것, 지구환경에 미치는 영향을 최소화하면서 순환되어 새로운 쓰임을 얻는 것을 고려해 계획되었습니다.
파빌리온의 구조체를 덮고 있는 친환경 소재 타이벡(Tyvek)은 전시가 끝난 뒤 해체되어 플라스틱 판재로 재탄생되며, 버려지고 방치된 구조 목재를 사용해 만든 퍼즐 벤치와 파빌리온을 안전하게 지탱해주는 스틸 구조체도 모두 재활용되어 쓰임이 필요한 곳에 사용될 예정입니다. 또한 시공 현장에서 발생하는 환경 임팩트와 탄소 배출량을 줄이기 위해 대부분의 요소가 공장 제작(Prefabrication)되어 현장에 설치됩니다.
지속가능성에 대한 분명한 목표를 가지고 모인 다양한 분야의 전문가, 엔지니어와의 협업으로 파빌리온이 만들어졌습니다. 건축 디자인 스튜디오 Studio Heech의 총괄 및 디렉팅을 바탕으로, 세계적인 구조 컨설턴트인 프론트(Front)가 최소한의 가벼운 구조체를 만들어 내기 위해 함께 고민했고, 타이벡 소재로 다양한 친환경 작품을 선보였던 DSLSM과 재료의 순환과 의미있는 활용을 구현하기 위해 함께 노력하였습니다.
